Building Inspector
Part-time employment as per clients' requests. Be available to work irregular hours and weekends.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The building inspector is an expert in the residential and/or commercial building sector. With a wealth of technical knowledge, the holder must be able to determine the condition of the building, including identifying minor or major problems with a property, which may also diminish its value or represent a potential hazard to its habitats.
SKILLS SOUGHT
- Be a member of a professional association (APCHQ/AIBQ)
- Have specialized technical training (Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC)) or any other post-secondary diploma
- Have knowledge of the Construction Code as well as the various safety standards in the field
- Experience in residential construction (an asset)
- Have in-depth knowledge of all types of buildings as well as the different components of the property: structure, foundation, plumbing, roofing, electrical system, etc.
- Be very thorough; Have a good sense of observation; be able to discern any defects, abnormalities or signs of potential defects; Have an analytical mind and an excellent eye for detail
- Be able to summarize the inspection verbally, review the seller's statement with the customer, ask the seller about recent construction or renovation work
- Be able to produce a detailed and personalized report within a reasonable time after viewing the property
- Answer all customer queries following the submission of an inspection report
- Have a valid driver's license (travel in a greater Montreal area and its surroundings)
- Be available to work irregular hours, including weekends (occasionally)
- Be bilingual (French and English, spoken and written), an asset
